Please join MP Joyce Murray at her Friday, February 19, 2016 MP Breakfast Connections with special guest Michael Small: ” What do the Moose and the Kangaroo have in common: Five things Canada can learn from Oz and vice versa”
Canada and Australia are close allies sharing a common heritage and values – two Asia-Pacific nations separated by the vast Pacific Ocean. Both commonwealth countries have federal Westminster-style Parliaments governing relatively small populations inhabiting enormous, resource-rich territories. How do Canada and Australia compare on issues that are important to Canadians? And more importantly, what lessons can we learn from each other?
Michael Small was Canada’s High Commissioner to Australia from September 2010 until December 2014. Previously he served as Canada’s Assistant Deputy Minister for Global Issues at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Following his thirty-three year career as a diplomat and senior executive in the Canadian foreign service, Mr. Small became a Fellow of the Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University one year ago, working on urban co-operation to advance climate change action.
Come hear Michael share his experiences in Australia and discuss the unexpected lessons the two countries can learn from each other!
