MP Policy Café on Defence and Veterans

On Monday July 18, 2016 MP Joyce Murray hosted a policy café discussion on the future of our country’s defence and veterans policy. We had great turnout for a Monday morning including veterans, active service members, and over 40 members of the community, generating meaningful and creative conversation surrounding the future of Canada’s military contributions at home and abroad. This review was intended to provide the clarity needed to balance priorities, respond to emerging challenges, and invest appropriately in Canada’s military. MP Policy Café on Climate Change and Clean Energy

On Tuesday July 19, 2016 MP Joyce Murray hosted a policy café to give the people of Vancouver Quadra an opportunity to share their ideas on how to address the problem of climate change and stimulate the clean energy economy. The event brought together over 60 participants from the community, green tech companies, advocacy groups, academics, and those devoted to seeing positive action being taken to combat climate change. The room was divided into working groups presented with three questions. The groups were then tasked with discussing possible solutions, outcomes, and implications of their various proposals. Following the group work, the room addressed Joyce with various solutions and issues currently impacting Canada. The consensus was clear that the solutions exist – we just need to start acting. MP Policy Café on Affordable Housing

On Friday July 22, 2016 MP Joyce Murray hosted a policy café on the future of housing within Canada and Vancouver Quadra, joined by over 60 members of the community. This group of stakeholders offered a variety of opinions and expertise about the current crisis in Vancouver’s Housing market. MP Policy Café on Canada Post

On Friday July 22, 2016 MP Joyce Murray hosted a “world café” style of public roundtable discussion on the future of Canada Post with members of the community, current union employees, and retired postal workers. This group of stakeholders offered a variety of opinions and expertise that were invaluable in understanding what the future of Canada Post may look like. Based on the slideshow provided through the online consultation, our discussion was structured with the aim of generating useful information for the federal government to consider. MP Policy Café on Electoral Reform

On Monday August 22, MP Joyce Murray hosted a policy café to give the people of Vancouver Quadra an opportunity to share their ideas on electoral reform in Canada. The event brought together almost 200 engaged members of the community. People offered a variety of ideas and expertise on what a future electoral system might look like. The room was divided into café tables of 5-7 people, who after a brief introduction by MP Murray, and a power point setting the context for the evening, had 15 minutes to discuss each of three questions. They noted key points on sticky notes which were placed on a wall for others to read.
